BROOKLYN, NY – Today, candidate for New York’s 25th State Senate District Jason Salmon was endorsed by The Jewish Vote, a progressive grassroots Jewish organization that stemmed out of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ). Like Jason, The Jewish Vote is focused on holding our government accountable, building a political movement that is powered by the people, and rejecting all corporate, real estate, and fossil fuel money.

“I know Jason’s heart because I’ve marched with him in the streets and organized with him for years. I know that he will push for and win the legislation needed not only for his district but for all New Yorkers” says Shoshana Brown, Social Worker & JFREJ Jews of Color Caucus leader.

“Albany is in desperate need of a trustworthy progressive champion who will work day in and day out to hold the NYPD accountable and reduce the overall size and scope of the carceral system. Jason is that champion. He knows firsthand the violence of this system and he will prioritize and fight to pass long-overdue legislation. His focus will be the #SaferNYAct, which includes: the Police Statistics and Transparency (STAT) Act, codifying and strengthening the Special Prosecutor executive order, reducing Unnecessary Arrests for low-level, ticketable offenses, repealing the NYS police secrecy law (CRL section 50-a), and legalizing marijuana with strong attention paid to ensuring that resources are reinvested in communities most harmed by prohibition” says Rachel McCullough, Political Director of The Jewish Vote.

The Jewish Vote will be hosting a zoom greet and support event where members of the community will be given the opportunity to hear from their endorsed candidates. JOC’s: We Got Your Back will be on Tuesday, March 31st at 6:00 pm.

“As a former member of JFREJ, I am honored to receive the endorsement from The Jewish Vote, an organization that has spent the last few years fighting for the voice of my community,” said Jason Salmon. “Since the election of President Trump in 2016, the Jewish community has been under attack by his anti-semitic and callous rhetoric. His threats have manifested

themselves in dangerous ways including in life-threatening anti-semitic attacks throughout the state. As a person who is proud to be Black and Jewish, I am honored to stand in solidarity with The Jewish Vote as we fight against fascism and for racial and economic justice in the state of New York. Today, I am proud to be driving a campaign that is focused on uniting our communities and building a state that truly reflects our values with the help of organizations like The Jewish Vote. Together we will work against corporate power, fight to change our criminal legal system, and demand truly affordable housing for all.”

Jason Salmon was born into a multi-racial family – his father is Black and his mother is White. The Jewish Vote endorsement adds to Jason’s growing coalition of supporters and reinforces his campaign as the people-driven grassroots campaign in the race. Jason has also been endorsed by New York City Councilmember Carlos Menchaca, Reverend Anthony L. Trufant, UAW Region 9A, the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn, and the Central Brooklyn Independent Democrats.

About The Jewish Vote The Jewish Vote is a home for New York Jews seeking to secure a pluralistic city that works for all of us through the power of the Jewish vote. We are intellectuals, day school kids, bubbes, queers, geeks, resistance moms, carpenters, bartenders, lawyers, nurses, farmers — deeply rooted cosmopolitans and proud members of the diaspora. We are Black and Brown, Latinx and Asian, Mizrahi, Ashkenazi and Sephardi, immigrant and US-born. In 2018, our Jewish votes and voices helped elect a new generation of reformers and radicals, Jews and non-Jews like Biaggi and Salazar and Myrie and Williams. In 2020, we will defeat Trump and elect another cohort of visionary leaders to represent us at every level of government. Together we will build a future with Medicare for All, universal rent control, a Green New Deal, publicly funded elections, fair wages and working conditions for all workers, and an end to mass incarceration and criminalization of people of color. The Jewish Vote will be at the forefront of efforts to hold accountable both the Democratic Party and the Jewish establishment, who too often serve the interests of the donor class at the expense of the rest of us. The Jewish Vote endorses candidates who will fight alongside us to achieve all of this and more.

The Jewish vote is powerful. We are The Jewish Vote.
